in Cutting tax
Hi all.
I stumbled upon something yesterday to do with tax refunds and started looking into it.
Got out my 09-10 P60 and put the info into the caclulator on the tax website and Im supposedly owed £375
Taxcode was 635l M1 (Is that tax code even right??)
Total pay was £6010
Tax deducted was £374
Called them up and they asked if I was on JSA.
I was from before April 09 but for this it would be April/may/june/july (August 3rd 09 I was employed)
So that would be £200 per month making it £800
They said get the JSA to send a letter with the JSA p45/p60 info for tax year 08-09 09-10 and then send it with the p60 asking for a refund.
My question is does JSA count as taxable incoming, meaning I "earned" £7000+ thus I dont owe them anything and im nto entitled to a rafund or am I missing something?
The guy on the phone said it didnt matter but im pretty confused by it all!

hello,
yes jobseekers allowance is taxable income.
However, based on your figures (£6010 + £800), I think you are due a tax refund of about £300, so send off the paperwork or give HMRC a call, you can find your local tax office on HMRCs website in the "contact us" section.0 -
Ah thanks for the reply!
I got the letter through (though strangely only the 2009-2010 one)
It says I claimed £864.01 so in total
£6874.90
So am I still owed money? (I sure hope so, could do with some cash:rotfl:)
Ah according to this
It appears you may have paid to much tax, you may be due a refund of £294.40
Does this sound right? I hope so!!!0 -
I make it £269 but whatever the exact figure is HMRC owe you some wedge0

Very nice:j
I assume its better to call than post this info off?
Also Ive been looking back and its possible they even owe me £200 for the following year aswell but coming from JSA to employment I had to give them my P45.
So I have no record for april-aug 08
I was then employed from aug 08 till xmas eve 09(made redundant:mad:)
Then JSA again from Jan-April.
Is there a way to get an ex-employer to give me the info I need much like the JSA sending me the letter or is it a lost cause?0
