Looking for Inspiration & recommendation

Options
Having got my slowcooker now, Ive browsed through lots of the Recipe Collections on here, especially for slow cookers. Went to the shops and bought some ingredients specifically to use in it.

Here is what I have got, can anyone recommend anything to me to try.
Also If I make it today, how long will I be able to keep it and keep reheating, before any is put in the Freezer. Am I right in thinking that if I made a soup or broth with no Meat in, there wouldnt be a problem?
I could prepare it all today and switch on in the morning so that will at least save me one Day.
Slow cooker is only 3.3litres too.

Anyway here is what ive got in my House

Diced Chicken Breast 330g
12 Thick Pork Sausages 681g
2 Chicken Breastss 260g
Mince Beef - 500g
2 X Minced Beef 400g -cheap asda own make
2 tins of Beef Stewing Steak -410g each
600g White Turnips
500g Parsnips
500g Carrots
White Cabbage
250g Mushrooms

Hi. I have a good cook book called The Slow Cooker Cook Book (wonder how long it took them to think of that LOL) by Gina Steer. It would be worth getting it out of the library to see if you like it, and then buying it if you do, because I use mine all the time. :D

One of my fave recipes is sausage casserole. Fry onions, garlic and celery with some other stuff you might have like a bit of mustard powder or cumin. Add a green pepper if you have one. Put this in the bopttom of the slow cooker and then in the frying pan brown the sausages. put them in the slow cooker, and then add a tin of tomatoes, 1/2 pint of stock, and if you like some tinned beans - any type, kidney, mixed even baked!
Cook for about six to eight hours. Lovely!
  • sounds yum!!
how long could I keep that and reheat, if the Sausages are Frozen?

I'm not too sure as it always gets gobbled up in our house - but you could keep it in the fridge for a couple of days no problem and then reheat it (make sure it's piping hot). You could cook lots and freeze it after it has been cooked. (but then you couln't freeze it again).

  • I make chicken stew - make with Cubed chicken breasts, carrots, onions, leeks, white beans, herbs, chicken stock and a little white wine Cook for 5-6 hours on low. 30 minutes before the end add some the lemon and rosemary dumplings. Cook on high for 30 minutes until dumplings are cooked.
I'm sure you could adapt this recipe for your ingredients, might need some cornflour to thicken the sauce.

Soup. Lots and lots of soup.
Minestrone (ingredients carrots, celery, onions, cabbage, bacon, white beans, pasta, stock.

  • How about making some of the mince in meatballs and make a nice tomato sauce by sauteing some chopped onion, carrot, garlic and peppers then adding tinned tomato. Put this into SC and add your uncooked meatballs.
