Cancelling Services - legal position

Hi there

I have a couple of questions about cancelling services.

Firstly Sky. I had a Sky+ 160 box installed 8 months ago. I seem to remember that there was a 12 month contract requirement in the T&C's. If I want to cancel will they want me to pay up to the end of the 12 months or will they ask for the box to be returned?

Secondly, I phoned to cancel a phone contract and they advised that (1) they can't cancel over the phone so I have to put it in writing and (2) they need 30 days notice. When I took this out I wasn't advised of this nor did I get a copy of T&C's. Can they do this?

TIA.

With Sky, it is pretty standard to request you fullfil the contract by paying for the whole term of it. If you are struggling, you can reduce to most basic package and then cancel the contract as soon as you are out of the commitment period.

Secondly, I phoned to cancel a phone contract and they advised that (1) they can't cancel over the phone so I have to put it in writing and (2) they need 30 days notice. How far are you in your contract? If you are out of your commitment time (the number of months you singed up for), you may still have to give them the 30 days notice. I've had to do that with Orange in the past even though I was out of contract time and not renewed it.
    TIA.

    Hope this helps....good luck!
