Someone remind me why I moved up here please, I never find what I want. :(

I've been all over looking for any profile other than ogee or pencil round and no-one carries any stock unless it's one of those two. I need to have a special order run even for a plain chamfer.

I've tried places in Inverness and Elgin as well as further North. One place has quoted me £2.85 + VAT per meter to get a run done but given that they seem to be hugely cheaper than anywhere else, I'm concerned about the grade they supply. (I want a quality grade, nothing 'rustic'.)

So before I either give in and head down the ogee road or risk ordering a special run load in the hope it arrives in an acceptable state, does anyone know of anywhere who either carries more profiles or deals with good grade oak?

Hey thee are a few joiners with workshops in inverness who might be able to do it.
Try MacDonald and MacIntyre or go in to the merchants, Howdens, Jewsons, Magnet and TP if they dont keep it they might be able to advise you who does.
make sure its oak you get and not meranti, they two can look similar. (light meranti can look like oak)
    good luck

Richard Burbidge are well known manufacturers. Keith Builders in Keith or Forres seem to be the nearest non-chain stockists and they would probably be more willing to order in than the chain merchants.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Thanks both. I think the delivery costs are going to prove prohibitive the further away I try. I've already had a shock when it comes to the costs quoted, lol.

I'll ring round the ones mentioned on Mon although Howdens are off the list as they do finished veneered oak which I dont want.

    Appreciate your help, thanks. :)

Another question please guys......one place we approached for a quote for architrave and skirting insisted that they should be different thicknesses and they quoted for 16mm thick architrave and 14 mm thick skirtings.

They are the only place that's done that. Everywhere else has worked on 15mm thickness for both (that's the standard thickness here even although I've found a lot of places on the net selling 20mm thick stuff).

They reckon you need a couple of mm difference in thickness as a 'visual break' and it's just better.

    Thoughts?
