  • indeed.

But every year spent renting is another year of expense before becoming rent/mortgage free.

    Gibberish.

If rent % = mortage interest rate it makes no difference.

Given that interest rates are at 0.5% the only thing astonishing about this article is that only 75% of people are better off buying than renting. It just goes to show that only such low interest rates are supporting house prices.

I wander what the study would show if interest rates were at their 20 year average of 6%.

No point.... He'll only forget it again in 3 seconds.

Can someone let chuckles know that if the base rate was not as low as it is, mortgage rates would not be as low as they are, several hundred thousand homeowners would not be saving a wedge each and every month, and therefore, this story would never have even existed.

Mindyou, on saying that, I'm pretty sure he's just pretending to be completely backward as he's lost for anything else to say in response to wooksters, very obvious point.

so you can't get any numbers of these people that are saving this 'nice wedge' then...

i never realised that SVR's were at 0.5% now... which bank is offering that then?

Not if you have a repayment mortgage. After 25 years you'll have no mortgage to pay, if you rent you'll pay rent forever.
