Help Me Find Pillow For Stiff Neck!

Options
i'm currently looking for a decent neck pillow for my horrid pain that ive been suffering with for the past 8mths. ive had neck stiffness on and off for the past couple of yrs (i'm 40 female and worked with computers most of my working life). tho' in the past yr, ive had really aching shoulder probs too and the physio didn't really help. i want a really decent pillow but with many kinds on the market, i'm baffled as to choose the right one. i'm kinda on the brink (as in today - well, i really need to buy one vvv soon as i'm not sleeping well, with tossing and turning and snoring so says my put-upon partner who's not a v happy bunny in the mornings nowadays) - of buying a memory foam 3-in-1 type. there's one from John Lewis http://www.johnlewis.com/105918/Style.aspx
at £35 a pop, but i don't want to find it a waste of money. there are other cheaper memory foam ones there, and at other places, but they're not contoured to give me the support i need for my neck..

what do others think? i'm so achey in the mornings with both the neck and shoulder, that it's hard at times to wake up properly. the pain carries on throughout the day, at times more noticeable if i'm carrying things or doing too much. has anyone been referred to a clinic before if their NHS physio didn't work? i've yet to get my assessment at the back pain centre in notts.

That pillow is not all memory foam, it looks from the description it is only the roll part that is memory foam.

    I have this one http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_312002721580_-1?breadcrumb=Home~txtpillow

It is all memory foam. I have had it about 4yrs could not do without it. I also have a memory foam mattress & get a great sleep.

I think my pillow is getting to the end of it's life now & I will be getting another soon, memory foam of course.

  • I too have a lot of trouble with my neck and I have found it is miles better with a memory foam pilllow. Didn't like it at first but my neck has been far better since using it so that is a benefit in my book. Mine was from Poundstretcher about £8 each or 2 for £15 so not exactly a dear one.

I found that the contoured ones make my neck worse. However, I eventually splashed out and bought a Tempur one which isn't contoured - it's the queen classic, like this one http://www.bedsareuzzz.co.uk/bedroom/pillows-amp-travel-accessories/tempur-pillows/tempur-queen-classic-pillow/81/194

If you do go for a contoured one you should try it out first as if like me you've not got broad shoulders, they're really uncomfortable and make matters worse (well they did for me).
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I had a similar problem and splashed out on this one at John Lewis.

It took a bit of getting used to but I persevered for a week or so and now I would not use anything else. Expensive I know but a small price for the difference it made.
