These are the shape and size of a normal pillow, but are filled with memory foam granules instead of being moulded. This means that the pillow will shape to your natural position, rather than forcing your neck into the shape of a moulded pillow.
If you want extra height, then it is best to use a normal pillow under the memory fill one.
Many neck problems stem from the shoulders, and can be helped by better support from your mattress. What type of mattress do you have, and what position do you sleep in?
it was my neck stiffness that came first before I noticed my arm and shoulder hurting. I've had this problem for about 8 mths now, and it's difficult to shower nowadays where I can't reach my back, or to change my upper clothing anymore. I think some of the pain is caused by stress which had worsened over the yrs. As a non car-user, I carry heavy loads of shopping twice a week so I don't think that helps at all for my shoulders (tho' most days, I use a day rucksack for general stuff).
I've looked at the mattress and it's a Myers. I have no idea whether it's pocket-sprung or coil-sprung whatever. All I can see it has deep tufted bits at various points in the mattress. it's a 4-drawer kingsize one, with a nice woven upholstery on it at a cost of £400 I think (reduced by half bought 6yrs ago). It's the highest bed I've ever slept on and the firmest too, and my cats certainly love scratching on the bottom of it each morning!:p
so Tim, is the memory filled one as posted by Silverfoxuk - King Koil Memory Pillow the best I should go for (I know you're not meant to advertised, but just hint then!:D) as opposed to the 3 way type Memory Foam by the JL link I've posted? I don't think JL has the KK one there.
I'm just so pleased and appreciative:j to know that there are ppl on here who could help me. It's becoming quite isolating not knowing anyone who could sympathise with me (work, friends etc.,) . thanks for all your comments/suggestions everyone!:beer:0 -

Yes the one posted by Silverfox is the right type. There are loads of different makes of these available. Some have a mixture of reflex foam and memory foam granules, but the best type are those that contain memory foam only.0 -
When I had shoulder/neck issues I took advantage of QVC to get pillows & try them out so I could send back what didn't suit me, I actually ended up with a buckwheat one which is the type I still use along with a feather/down one.
FWIW if you get ever get the opportunity to try Bowen Technique/ Bowen Therapy give it a go, I had neck/shoulder issues (part whiplash issues) worked at computers all day, was signed of physio because they couldn't do anymore and Bowen was what worked for me, so much that I trained to be a therapist to pass it on.
From my personal experience I would suggest you try to find a way to get your pain sorted out (either NHS or privately) because with pc work it's not likely to get better on it's own - also make sure you get a proper vdu assessment to help support you at work and try to practice good posture - because it could get worse, which I suspect you're already experiencing.
