50th Birthday - Decorating a small marquee

I'm having a bit of a do for my 50th birthday in September and I have rented a small marquee (6m x 6m - approx 20' x 20'). It comes with a chandelier but I'm looking for cheapish ideas to decorate it.

It will probably have two sides with windows and two sides with doors. And will look a bit like this

I'll be having the buffet and maybe the bar table in there and am looking for ideas for the tables, maybe some fairly lights and some dressings for the walls behind the tables.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've never done this before.

Thanks

  • well had out wedding recption in a marquee, we went to an asian shop and bought LOADS of cheap blue material and sort of swaggered it between the uprights, and then over the uprights from the top of them to the floor. then we bought fairy lights/rope lights and put them sort of on top the lights, so the blue bits lit up!
not sure what to say about the tables! it depends what you like, but you could go wedding like and put flowers/centre pieces, or you could do something more relaxed like photos ten different photos of you and then 10 years and they have to match them up, something fun to, and related to your 50th!

Thanks for that. I could easily visit some sari shops. I'll have a look...

I went to a friends 40th birthday and they had posters decorating the marquee - family pics of her as a child up to present day.

They were well received - all of the guests had a good laugh at the changing fashion!
