I have just done this, and once I'd got my pre-payment certificate through the post, I had to go back to the pharmacy I got the prescription from - NOT the post office - and they refunded me the cash.

ETA - sorry posted at the same time as bossyboots!

    Great minds and all that.

I thought I should just point out that you do not have to go back to the pharmacy where you get the original prescription, in fact, not all of them do the refunds. My local Tesco pharmacy does so it worked out okay for me when I did it. I do know though that the pharmacy I originally got the FP57 doesn't do the refunds, but thats a whole other story.

Oh, I was sure it said on the form that it had to be collected from the pharmacy that issued the receipt, except for War Pensioners (I didn't pay too much attention to the rules for them, as I'm not one!). That was also the advice given to me when I rang the place where I bought the PPC from.

Never mind - at least we agreed on the code of the form (the FP57) lol, and that you can reclaim the charges. The fine mechanics may need a little investigation though :-)

It may be that the rule has changed in the last 12 months. It was September last year that I reclaimed mine and I definitely reclaimed it from a different pharmacy to the one where I got the prescription filled. I will go off and see if I can find any information and post back.

Edit: This is what the Prescription Pricing Authority state to pharmacists

    "Pharmacies processing forms for refunds

    11. Patients should preferably return the prescription refund and receipt form to the community pharmacy that issued it. However, if this is not possible they may take the form to the most convenient pharmacy (normally in the country where the charge was paid.)"

I do not remember anything on the back of my FP57 saying to go back to where the prescription was issued but then again, it actually said to go to the Post Office as it was an old supply of forms they were using up. Tesco did it without batting and eyelid so although it seems fairer to recover the money from the place it was spent, it is not compulsory.

Bossyboots, wouldn't it be cheaper to get your 'one month at a time' prescription as a one off in the months not covered by your scheme above, and continue with the previous scheme?

I have now worked out the figures and in fact it would cost me more to do it that way than to pay for a one year PPC.
