Just wondered if anyone has any recent experiences of holding or attending a wedding at Ross Priory? We are looking at it as a possible venue for a winter wedding. Hoping to visit it next week.

I visited recently with my hubby to show him the place and it looks the same, but with regards to weddings - my brother got married there in Feb 2005 (yes snow in pics lol). The wedding ceremony was held in the room that overlooks the loch; the meal was in the room opposite then back to the original room where the carpet was now rolled back for the the ceilidh and the double doors opened to the bar area. I have to say it was a fantastic location, exemplary service. To me the advantages were:

-the fact the room where the ceilidh was is right next to the bar, so participants couldnt escape lol
    -breathtaking location for photos
-fantastic service including for example a tray of sandwiches after hours (we stayed in the 8 or 10 bedrooms) and glasses and ice as we had brought our own alcohol for later
-food was lovely, apparently the veggie dishes were good too
    - they recommended local photographers, florists etc and they were all top notch too :)
    - also there are lots of B&Bs locally for all the guests to stay in - Ross priory has a few rooms and a (I think) 2 bed cottage to book

Oh and if you want a ceilidh, the John Carmichael band from Glasgow are brilliant - especially good for those who havent done it before!! And obviously they travel as far as Ross Priory.

As an aside, I recently got married at New Lanark Hotel in South Lanarkshire. Again service was outstanding and the photos on the roof garden and surrounding areas are stunning (we scrubbed up well lol). They have 2 dedicated wedding organisers and although we had a small wedding, every attention to detail was given and we felt that our out of season wedding was just as important as the big summer weddings. If you are interested in any further details let me know.

Hope this helps. Oh and congrats :)

  • We got married in Ross Priory last June & must say it was fabulous (not being bias of course!)

We booked RP after our initial visit as it was exactly what we were wanting - small, initimate, friendly & a good reputation.

We had our ceremony on the green to the side of the building, over looking Loch Lomond. Loads of photo opportunities - they also have a walled garden out the back. It was raining on the morning of the big day and they were very patient while we waited for the rain to go off before setting up outside.

We played around with the menu quite a bit and Heather (events co-ordinator in uni campus) was a fantastic help, no matter how many times we changed & tweeched anything it was never an issue. The food portions are HUGE and delicious.

Having the dance floor (front room where the ceromony takes place) and the bar in the next room meant that you could still have a conversation & still be involved with the goings on.

We used their recommended florist & for all bouquets/button holes/table decs/stair decs etc it came to less than £300.

All our guests were able to get accommodation near by & we were left to our own devises after hours, in a lounge upstairs with glasses etc....

Staff very helpful on the day/night & quietly got on with things without a fuss (moving candles etc from dining room to steps outside) and all were very genuine.

Good luck with your visit - you won't be disappointed

Thanks very much for the replies, it sounds exactly what we are looking for and the right sized venue for us. We spoke to both the lady at the Uni and the events lady at Ross Priory and both were really helpful. I'm very excited now!!! :j

Just as a follow up, we visited Ross Priory on Friday and really liked it, so we phoned straight away and have booked it for October next year. It has everything we wanted and it meets all our requirements so we just got on with it!
