Re Mortgage Advice

Hi all. I have just come to the end of my lock in period and it's now time for me to get a better deal. Trouble is I haven't a clue where to go. I have used mortgage advisors in the past but my lasting impression was that the only people benefiting from the deal was themselves.
There are so many deals available and I don' t have a clue where to start looking

there are lots of web based comparison sites -
reading http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/articles.phtml#Mortgages
is a good start and provides many links.
( always check the fees/ range of lenders- as these may have changed in recent changes in regulation- if its a broker site ask for copy of their Initial Disclosure document aka IDD )
I also would be aware of sites that are just harvesting your deatils to sell on to authorised brokers
The FSA also provide comsumer guides
http://www.fsa.gov.uk/consumer/ and even a comparison table http://www.fsa.gov.uk/tables/
You will not find any one site covering every product , as some big brokers and groups of smaller brokers arrange exclusives .
On a last point I would stand up for the "adviser market" - in many cases it costs you no more ( or even less ) than going direct- its just a matter of finding an adviser / firm you trust. For example I have yet to hear a bad comment about London and Country ( a large brokerage ) on these boards, and as Martin states "Smaller brokers, carefully chosen ... will often provide an excellent service"- have you any friends that could recommend someone?
You can check a firms authorised at http://www.fsa.gov.uk/register/Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0
