if you have an interest and enjoy writing, Squidoo.com may be worth looking at. Squidoo is a free to use website that allows you to create what they call lenses. A lens is simply a webpage that you write about a subject that interests you. They are very easy to set up using a simple template system called modules. Someone (not me) has kindly made a video tutorial on You Tube about how to build lens look for YouTube user CaptainSquidoo .
Squidoo pay you a percentage of their advertising revenue based on the traffic you recieve, and on people clicking out from your lens to buy products. You can incorporate various money making modules including Ebay, Amazon, Cafe Press and numerous other affiliate programs. The idea is to recommend products that relate to the topic of your lens.
The best approach is to decide on your subject, and then do a keyword search to find words relating to your subject that are regularly searched for. Use a free keyword search tool to do this. There are many of these tools available online, just google 'free keyword tool', bear in mind some people will try and get you to purchase an advanced keyword tool, but their really isn't any need. You can get by with one of the free ones. Look for keywords (keywords can be phrases) that are searched for but have fairly low competition, try to incorperate them in your lens. I always try and use the best one in the url of my lenses. If you find you can't use your chosen keyword in your Squidoo lens url, there are ways round it your url, try hyphens or underscores between words, if this doesn't work use a number at the end, numbers wont affect your search engine rank. Why bother looking for keywords? Because that is how search engines like Google will find your lens.
Having found you keywords, it is worth seeing if their is an affliate product you can recommend within the text of your lens. Squidoo does limit the amount of external links you can have to any one domain, so becareful. Commission Junction, Affiliate Future and Clixgalore are good networks to find products to recommend. You should link to the affiliate product in the main text. You will need to know how to anchor text using html, there are plenty of free html tutorials out there.
I have used squidoo since 2007 and usually get about $25 a month from it. The real money isn't to be made directly from Squidoo though, the real money is made through the recommendations you make to affiliate products within the text of your lens. One lens, that took me about 5 hours to write, was regularly making me $100-$200 a month on top of what Squidoo pay me. I only updated it 2 or three times a year so it is very much a setup and almost forget process. It was regularly on the first page of Google for my keywords until recently
The great thing about Squidoo is it is free, fun and profitable. Well worth a try
