I bought a new king size duvet and pillow cases yesterday in Gosport for £6.95 and while its really good quality (the reason they are selling them cheap is they have buttons instead of poppers) its been heavily starched.
I washed it through this morning, with a pre-wash, I put borax in both the main wash and pre-wash, gave it a double dose of fabric condition and left it to dry, its come off the line still rather crispy.
Any sugguestions as to what might soften it? I was thinking abouit a cup of vinegar in the main wash and do it again or should I just use it and wait and see if the starch washes out over time.

I think you should just put it on the bed and I'm sure it will soften a bit in use.
It was a real bargain though, wasn't it0 -
Have you ironed it?Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Iron Bed Linen?
I cant do that.......thats one step away from finding yourself on the top of a multistorey carpark with a smoking rifle....... :eek:0 -
If you iron it it will soften it - I love crisp ironed linen.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

I do iron bedlinen but only because it's someone elses and I am paid to! The most expensive egyptian cotton bedlinen still looks crud if it's all creased. Try it one day, your whole ROOM will look nice and it will be the ironed duvet cover making all the difference;) And it does soften them too.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

You name it I iron it , I love the smell of freshly ironed sheets and pillowcases and could not imagine not Ironing virtually anything that has been on my washing line.
My children think I am daft but I have always done it. My late husband never wore so much as a pair of socks that hadn't been ironed and folded neatly and put away for him.I really spoiled him I know but I didn't mind as he was rather smashing0
