How do I know that I'm actually getting switched?

On 19th Aug '06 I went through the link here to Energyhelpline and filled in all the info necessary to switch from Brit Gas to Atlantic.
I think I dimly recall having an email back to say it was going to be processed, but I can't be 100% sure since I can't find that email now  . I haven't heard anything else since then.

Now BG have massively upped our direct debits again  I am desperately clinging to the hope that we'll transfer provider soon.

How do I find out if it's all in progress...or if I have to do it over again? :(

Be patient as it usually takes 5-6 weeks and for some reason the gas is longer.

  • What worries me is not knowing for sure whether the switch is actually going to go through, as I have no proof to say that it is in progress.
If I have to re-do the application I'd prefer to know sooner rather than later.

You could try phoning up your old supplier and asking them if they have received notification that you want to leave yet? I work in electricity (and gas may be different, but I don't think it is) and the first thing that happens if you try to change supplier for electricity is that the new supplier contacts the old supplier and asks if they will let you leave. All done by computers of course, but suppliers have the right to not let customers leave in certain circumstances (if you have owe them lots of money for example). If the people in the call centre at your old supplier don't know how to check for that, then I would just leave it, it will probably go through.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
