Glow Studios, Birmingham

Hi there,

Has anyone had any experience of Glow Studios? A friend and I have a voucher which we need to book for a make-over and photo session and this is one of the studios that is listed that do it.

I have tried to call them several times over the last 2 days and can't get a reply so have emailed them but it makes me a bit dubious about the company.....

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Many thanks :)

  • I don't know about that company particularly but if you search for 'makeover 2000' or i won a makeover' you will find many a horror story in there which it would be worth reading over before you do anything.

My makeover was free from a another company, but the photos were £90 each and there was two hours of hard sell after the shoot. Even as i was leaving and walking down the street they followed me still trying to sell the photos!

There are some much worse stories too, im not saying yours will be like that at all, but please have a look,
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

  • Thanks for that. The photoshoot is one of those experiences and it wasn't a free one so I'm hoping that will make a difference (althought I am expecting the hard sell after the shoot is over :()

Check out the praise vent and warnings forum. Loads of horror stories on there. Do a search on that forum to check the name then post over there. :)

This refers to another salon in Birmingham however the comments below mention 'Glow'. The same message is posted twice by 2 'different' people. A little worrying.

  • Be aware of this company. I am still waiting for my booking deposit of £50 to be refunded 61 days after my daughters attended the 'experience'. I have emailed 4 times with no reply and telephoned once, still no refund. Glow Studios stinks.
  • I've used Glow Studios in Birmingham and so have a few of my friends. We all found them to be really friendly and professional and not pushy when it came to sales. I have also used Double Take & New ID which were nightmare experiences but Glow Studios in mine and my friends experiences were really good. I would recommend.

    Hi

I have not used this studio but used a similar voucher for a studio in Manchester. It took over 4 months to get the deposit back was the only real negative thing about it. The photos after the free shot were very expensive but not a hard sale technique used more like they shower you with compliments to get you to buy.

I haven't used Glow but I have been to Double Take, and did a ton of research before going. It does seem they all work the same- they entice you in with a free makeover but give you the hard sell afterwards to try and sell you the ridiculously expensive photos. Your experience will vary depending on which staff members you get doing the selling. Mine gave endless compliments to try and make me buy my photos, but judging by other's horror stories some are a lot more intimidating. Also make sure you read the T&Cs carefully- I expect you will have to pay a deposit to book and paying that will probably end up with you being charged a lot of money if you try to cancel or rearrange your appointment later.

If you do go, make sure you stick to the T&Cs and are ready for the hard sell. Leave your cards at home and only bring a certain amount of money if need be. If you really want the photos, tell them you're a poor student and haggle; they'd rather sell you the photos at a much lower price than none at all. Oh, and be aware of other cheeky tactics they use to encourage you to buy- I've heard of these studios giving away lots of alcoholic drinks before in the hope you lose all common sense!

Hope this helps- it can be a good experience if you know how they work and play them to your advantage, but personally I don't think they're worth the stress.

Just to ad to this, to make others beware...Glow Studios have had my deposit since May this year, and although the appointment was early August, I am still awaiting the return of my 'fully refundable' deposit....

but they are so hard to get hold of, and when you do get hold of them, they cant sort it out until the boss has authorised the refund...who is hardly ever there... Zar/Sahir Ahmed is his name, apparently.

I ended up going through VISA, (glad i paid with credit card!) and they are now sorting this out for me!

oh yes, and to add to the frustration, when it said free print, it wasn't.... i had to pay £7 p+p...hmmmmm
