I would always take the RRP of Viners and Oneida products with a pinch of salt. They always seem to be on sale / discounted including at Oneida's own stores. The RRP is several times over what its actually worth.0

Hi,
We have received this response from Oneida:
"Hi there,
My name is Frannie and I’m Head of Marketing at Oneida Ltd. I noticed your post and wanted to say thank you for posting about us on MSE and also to address some of Distorted Vision’s queries.
As you are probably aware, RRP is a recommended price that suggests what a product is worth. However, manufacturers like Oneida cannot dictate what our customers (Debenhams, Fenwicks, etc) sell for.
Oneida stores in the UK are outlet stores – that is, where we offer discounted items that are end of lines or are reduced for reasons such as a packaging change. Our website sells our full range of products and we offer a 15% discount as standard to encourage customers to shop directly with us. Additionally, like many retailers, we have seasonal promotions such as our Summer or Christmas sales both on the web and in our outlet stores
None of this means that our RRP is several times over what our products are worth; Oneida cutlery is restaurant-quality and is guaranteed for at least 50 years, which means it will often retail for a little more. However on some occasions, due to promotional activity, it’s possible to pick up Oneida products at cheaper prices.
Thanks again,
Frannie"0 -
We looked at this set in another department store last year when we were looking for cutlery. I distinctly remember it as its name is my dad's star-sign!
At the time we were looking, the full price was circa £70.
At this price its an excellent buy. Each piece is nice and heavy and sits well in the hand. (I like heavy cutlery)
In the end, based on prices then, we bought an alternative in TK MAXX - otherwise I'd be buying 2 sets of these ......0 -
