Is this fair? You tell me. Distant relative, 3 kids and a long time singleton has been claiming full non working benefits for a number of years and has had hb for 10 years. Has just taken over a very nice 3 bed house in a rural town. Got £350 to decorate and it is in a nice setting.
Recently her Father passed away and left her about £130k. Talking to us today, she can buy the house she is now living in at a 40% discount discount from the estate. Somehow that sits uneasy with me. I cannot understand that someone should qualify for this discount. Something that perhaps should have been looked at after the Thatcher ruling.
Please do not start this into a benefit bashing thread but I do feel that this really isn`t just.

I agree I think it is a disgrace, some are in quite nice locations, however there are some out there that I wouldn't want with 100% discount 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

You get a maximum discount by region now.

their are not many houses now you would get the full 40% now unless she is in the public sector (due to the limits).0 -

I suppose you could take small comfort from the fact £130k will mean a lot of her benefits will have stopped...0
