hi everyone,
i'm going to brazil soon and have been shopping around for tropical strength mosquito repellant (50% DEET is the minimum according to advice i've been given). it's so expensive for such little bottles! i've used jungle formula in the tropics before and it was fantastic, but at almost £7 a bottle (for the topical stuff) it's pretty darn pricey. also, along the same lines i've been looking for a traveller's mosquito net to keep the little blighters at bay, as i know for at least the first couple of weeks i'll be in very basic accommodation. but again the minimum i've found those for are at the lowest end around £18, which is pretty expensive for what is essentially a piece of net sprayed with chemicals.
i was wondering if anyone has found some bargains in this area that could share them? i know boots has a 241 offer on travel things at the moment but they're not exactly the cheapest! thanks in advance

Not sure how much help this is, but I found mosquito nets and repellent to be much cheaper in Brazil than in the UK so might be better to wait and buy them when you get there?0

Also, be careful of putting 50% deet on your skin if you are in any way sensitive. I 'melted' part of a wooden headboard when some 40% Deet was spilled on it.

buy 1 lot in the uk and the rest out there - I have just got back from Bali - the local stuff is cheaper, more effective, smells nicer and it doesn't take up space in your luggageHad a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

I second what everyone else has said. My daughter just got back from 6 mos in OZ and PNG. I spent ages hunting down sunblock, repellent and nets (in January in rural Ireland thats quite a feat!) and she found it could all be bought easier, cheaper and with more variety once there. No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0

I got mine from M+S who also have a 241 offer:

I have also used Nomad 100% deet to treat my clothes before travel.0
