Poundshops

Hi all, following a visit to my local Poundland stocking up on summer goodies such as Johnsons summer sun and Nair hair removal cream which are obviously fantastic bargains I began to wonder which items I should be steering clear of (ie where are poundshops not good value ?) I figure that there must be some as how else do they make their money. I'd be greatfull for any pointers on this one.

I never even thought that some poundshop purchases might not be a bargain until I was queuing up with my pound in my hand to pay for a bag of cottonwool balls when it suddenly dawned on me that last time I bought them, I'd only paid 49p from a shop down the road! Having said that, I've just got a pack of, I think 10 very good toothbrushes for a pound, so that one was defo a bargain!

I agree, Poundshops / 99p shops can be great for some things, such as a dozen eggs for 99p at my local one, but then they obviously mark up loads of things that are cheaper, such as tinned tomatoes at 99p....I can get them for 31p in A$da!

    Hi Pickle

as this isn't an Old Style related topic, i've moved it to the shopping board to see if you get some more input
    thanks

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    thanks

Hey, I got a bottle of aquafresh mouth wash from my local 99p store the other day that I usually pay £3.99 for in Tescos, so definately a bargain, but I wouldnt buy batteries from there - I have spend untold amounts of money buying cheap batteries inthe past, when its often a better idea to spend a few pounds more and get Duracell or Energiser ones which last soooo much longer!
I smile because I have no idea what is going on :o
