"Free" cookbook - almost DFW?

Morning chaps.

I almost feel guilty about 'fessing up to this.

Yesterday I bought a glossy magazine.

Runs away and hides as DFWers come at her with jeers and bricks.

No! Wait! It had a "free" gift! Not your usual tacky plastic beachbag or one-size-fits-all (yeah, right) vest with rubbish stitching!

A copy of Nigel Slater's Real Fast Food. Lots of recipes to prepare in under 30 minutes! It's great! Some of the recipes made me giggle - fish finger sandwich, anyone? - but there are some lovely budget-friendly recipes here too. As much as I love the OS board for recipes, this is lovely too, and handbag friendly.

It comes with SHE magazine - £3  - but once in a while is OK, isn't it?

:T

OK, not technically free at all. But it'll help me get inspired to clear out the cupboards and fridge this weekend, which is no bad thing and will save me going shopping for nonsense.
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Nigel Slater is my fave cookery writer! I already have Real Fast Food, otherwise I'd be off to the newsagents quickly!
Hope you enjoy using your book.
Btw, if you like it, there are 'Real Fast Puddings' and 'The 30 Minute Cook' to try as well :D

  • I'm loving it! He writes really well and is so passionate about food and the ingredients he uses are so accessible. I might have a look for your other recommendations at the library newleaf, so thanks for them!

Do you think it'd be cheeky, if I bought it, copied out some recipes into my own recipe folder and then gave the book as a xmas present?

I know someone who would love it, and I've been looking for a couple of his books to get from xmas and bday present, so this would be great :)

If I did that would it make it more DFW or just me being tight?
    lol :)

  • I don't think this is cheeky at all! Be warned though - on the back of the book it states very clearly:

"SHE - Promotional copy only. Not for resale."

You can't see that until you've bought it - forewarned is forearmed!

EDIT: maybe you could buy it and give it as a gift - but put it into some sort of hamper with a few ingredients to get them started? A bottle of olive oil, some white wine vinegar and some herbs? That would make it so much more thoughtful too!

  • Just thought!

Promo copies often end up on Amazon for 1p plus postage. Might be cheaper than buying the magazine!

    No guarantee, but worth considering?
