cannot find rare sized jeans

OK folks, I know someone somewhere may have posted something like this, but I can't find such a thread, so here I am.

for years I've had trouble finding jeans that fit me, having to choose the next best sizes which are usually too big.

I'm male so my sizes are measured in actual inches, instead of the female sizes which are the actual size in inches, halved and then deduct 2. so a size 10 is actually 22". I worked in a charity clothes shop measuring donated clothes. the amount of women that kept cutting off the size labels because they don't want to reveal their actual sizes was incredible.

I am 38waist 29leg. I was measured recently.

I've searched high and low for decent jeans in my size, but they're pretty rare and hard to find. Unless I want to spend £60 per pair of jeans from a rip-off big brand company.

I know brands tend to not make clothes to exact measurements, and so jeans tend to be larger or smaller than stated by as much as 2inches.

I managed to get 2 pairs from my local Matalan (the only 2 pairs they had) at the size 38waist 30leg. These fit me quite nicely.

The story is this. I went in to find some jeans, because I need to replace mine due to holes wearing in certain areas. (note, this is a pretty big store.) I found a single pair on the racks, tried them and looked for any others. I couldn't accept these jeans because they were button fasten and not zip.

I asked an assistant to see if she could find my size with zips, so she looked on the racks, couldn't find any, but she went upstairs to the stock room and returned with the only 2 pairs they had.

Upon searching round, I found out most stores tend to stock smaller sizes, larger waist shorter legs. Eventually I found a bunch of jeans in my local Tesco big store. However, upon closer inspection, all wasn't as they appeared.

Tescos jeans were labelled as 38waist 29leg, but they were more like 44waist 36leg.

Online stores like Littlewoods, Jacamo etc are a no-go due various reasons ranging from not making deliveries, to shoddy quality causing the jeans to fall apart as soon as you sit down.

Can anyone suggest a decent place I can look? Due to me living in a town that is forgotten/not noticed, I'd probably have to travel too Sheffield, Mansfield, Nottingham, Rotherham, Chesterfield, Doncaster to find a suitable store.

    Have you tried eBay?
I sold a pair of vintage Levi's in that size only last week. I've just done a search, typing in Jeans 38W and selecting "S" and five pairs have come up. There's one pair priced at 99p and finishing in 5 hours. There's also some Levi's and Animal jeans listed which are both ending this evening.

Try the Levis store- if you can get to it, the one in Regent street seems to have quite a few sizes and can order stuff in the last time I was there.

Diesil is another store to check out. Think your best bet is to look for stores that specialise in jeans rather then general stores which don't and tend to only carry mainstream sizes.

Just to correct you on the cloth sizes though, size 10 is not a 22" waist!- thats a size 4-6! Size 10 is 28", size 12 is 30" size 8 is 26".....etc.
  • OK, firstly, I never touch eBay and never will.

Just took a look at Levi's website. There's no way I'm paying that much money for a pair of jeans. Diesel website is impossible to navigate, and practically every link I clicked on came up with pictures of voyeurism to advertise their clothing.

    Any other places??

TKMaxx can be good for a well fitting pair but it can take a very long time of trying things on. Purely because they have tons of different brands in.

Interesting about the womens size thing, had never heard of that before. I don't think it corresponds well to modern clothes though.

Youre missing out not trying ebay imo.

My hubby is the same size and I usually get his jeans in a size 38, 30 from m and m direct (mandmdirect.com). They have a good few pairs at the mo ranging from £24.99 - £44.99 for some decent brands if you use the 'narrow my search' tool on the left to put the gender, product and size in.

if you have a slater menswear near you they do many named jeans at lower prices like levis and such. they also do a free alteration service, so if u need an inch taken up on the leg that wouldnt be a problem- it usually while u wait aswell.

i m not sure if there would be one in sheffield?

Primark. My ex was a 40 waist 30 leg, and my dad is I think the same as you, maybe a 30 leg. They have any amount of weird sizes in there, so you should be able to find at least one pair (and they're not too expensive either)

The nearest TKMaxx I can think of is out by Mansfield train station. A good half hour train journey. Might be worth forking out the £5 return train journey.

Apparently, they must have changed how they're measured since I worked in the charity shop. However, it's worked out to make the women feel thin. to me, I don't see the point in it. It's pretty confusing if you ask me.

A woman goes into a store, doesn't know what size she is, gets measured in inches, and then you need to convert it into the label size.
