Container to reheat food in microwave

Options
Does anyone know where i can buy containers to use to reheat food in a microwave that you can keep the lids on. The microwave in work is disgusting and i only want to really reheat food that is covered with a lid in it.

Thanks

Have you got a Wilkinsons anywhere near you? I've got some containers I got from there that have a little rubber bung-type thing in the top - you just remove that to let out steam but the whole rest of the lid stays on.

Another possibility is one a senior member of staff where I worked used to resolve our disgusting microwave problems - she got it all nicely cleaned then threatened that, if it didn't stay that way, it would be removed as a health hazard. No-one's quite sure if she's serious, but the microwave's stayed surprisingly clean ever since, just in case. ;)

    Hi Shaz:)

as this has dropped down the board, I have moved it to the I wanna board to see if anyone has any other suggestions

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    thanks

I'd want to make sure the containers you use say 'microwave safe' as there are many theories on plastic containers with food and microwave/heat.

Failing that you could use a bowl for your food and a plate for a lid. Same amount of cleaning as you get with a tub+lid container.

Or a piece of kitchen towel over the top - then resuse it as a napkin? Got even use if beforehand for wrapping your cutlery in?
  • The Lock and Lock boxes can be used in the microwave, all you have to do is to release the sides but leave the lid on. Some of the cheaper versions can be used in the microwave too but you have to check the packaging.

  • I bought a microwave cooking dish with lid from Tesco some time back. I use it to cook veggies.

You can get glass bowls with glass lids that are microwave safe. I also managed to get some Coirning bowls with rubberised lids, that you can seal when in the fridge, then loosen for use in the microwave. I got those in the USA, but you should be able to get soemthing simlar here, perhaps from Wilko.
Hoping this year is better than the last. :)
