Pokemon suitable for 9 year old boy

I have asked what a friend's son would like for his birthday and he wants something to do with Pokemon. I am not looking for clothes, trading cards or bedding. Does anyone know if there is something else I can buy, maybe some sort of game? I am open to suggestions. Only really want to spend £5-£10.

Hadn't realised games were expensive. Would need to check with his mum about what platform. Hadn't even considered that there are so many platforms to consider!
