If I may ask though, opinions aside and just about the money factor - do you think if the licence fee was scrapped you'd be saving £150 in all honesty? Or do you think that it paves the way for the remaining major player/s to increase their subscriptions or start forcing people to pay for content of any kind?

I dont understand the basis for this argument. What evidence is there that the removal of the licence fee will cause others to raise their prices?

I am one of those "snobs" who NEVER watch ITV because it is such rubbish and rarely Channel 4.

Over the last 40 years I have watched TV all over the world and can confidently say that what the BBC has to offer is second to none.

Why do people insist on arguing that the BBC is so great, and anyone who disagrees is simply misinformed.

I don't want to have to pay to watch it because I don't think it's worth the money. You want everyone to pay it because you think it's worth the money, even though it's subsidised by people who don't.

No. If you can only deal with people who's opinions differ from yours by thinking that it's a conspiracy then that's an issue you need to deal with, while others form their opinions and make choices without your taking part.

I think that people bringing up how "bad" TV is elsewhere is of no concern to those who haven't been elsewhere or who do not care and wish to see the Licence Fee abolished.

Personally, although I disagree with how the BBC is run and operates in many areas, I approve of the TV licence fee, so for me it is fair.

The fact that Sky/Virgin/BT Vision charge me for things I neither watch nor want is not fair.

So two "not fairs" or "one fair" and "one unfair" or "two fairs" - depending on your standpoint.

I would like to see the bureaucracy of the BBC scaled back, it has little else it can sell off.

It relies on others now for its broadcast infrastructure, so the middle "B" of BBC is a bit redundant and it no longer, in many areas, employs the technical staff required to make its programmes.

Things will I am sure change in the future, but I haven't seen what that change is as yet, or how it will satisfy the majority of the public.

yeah its not the same thing though is it. you have to pay the BBC to own any tv receiving equipment, you dont have to pay Sky/Virgin/BT do you?

You don't have to pay for any sort of licence to own TV receiving equipment, but I don't think that is what you meant.

It may not be "the same thing" but still unfair.

    You have been misinformed.

Part 4 of the Communications Act 2003 makes it an offence to install or use a television receiver to watch or record any television programmes as they're being shown on television without a valid TV Licence.

theoretically you could own it and deny you use it, why don't you give it a try and see what the nice people from TV licensing do?

If you can quote me anything, official, that shows that you need a licence to own a television receiver I will be impressed.

I could save you a lot of time looking - you don't need one.

As I said earlier I don't think you meant that you need a licence to own one, but perhaps I was wrong, maybe you did mean that.

    But surely not?
