Money Saving for Wedding.

Hi everyone,
Me and OH have finally made a descision over our big day. We both have big familys and a big friends base and catering a wedding for all those people was going to cost us thousands! We excepted the fact but kept mentioning 'if we had £8+ sat in a bank account could we bring ourselves to spend it all on one day?' - well we have eventually decided NO.
We love our friends and family but we just can't justify spending so much on one day. We have always said we'd love to go travelling so I posed it to the OH seriously rather than joking this time: wouldn't it be amazing to get married and then go travelling around the world for months as our honeymoon?
So, we've decided to delay the wedding for about 4 years and save up to do a low key afternoon reception wedding with close friends and family straight onto a party with a buffet for rest of guests to include speaches etc. Hoping we might do it all for £3k. Then pump the rest of the money to travelling.
Dilema is... I worked out to save up £18k (conservative estimate) over 4yrs would mean us having to put away £187.50 each per month. Something that at present we can't afford, plus we still want to have some cheap holidays etc.
So.. dilema is...
HOW DO WE UP OUR WEDDING INCOME?
I have sold some stuff on ebay recently which has bagged me around £125 but once I don't really have much else to get rid of.
We both play poker (for fun) and at times can make a reasonable profit but then can also go on a loosing streak so this is by far not a fixed earner. I have made £100+ profit in the last 2 weeks tho (yey) but was on a bad steak for weeks a few months ago so stopped myself playing for a while. We're not gamblers so we only play when we can afford to loose the money, usually no more than £50/month. (I know someone is bound to say don't play and just save the dosh!)
We'd do car boots but we dont have anything to sell.
I have a company car which I get fuel as a benifit in kind, so if I could find some extra income in delivering things or something? Any ideas?

You said it! Have you ever worked out what you have spent compared to what you have won?
I tell myself this all the time with the lottery and thats only £10 a month.
You say you cant afford to save £186 a month but you can afford to loose £50 a month!! You can afford to save £50 a month and not save £186 a month!
Other ways to make money - cash back sites, thats alot of insurance policies / 5% from M&S etc over 4 years.
Cut out the some (not all) luxuries - eg if you drink 4 bottles of wine a week, cut back to 2, that's around £10 a week and pays for the lottery! ;-))0 -
have a look at the up your income board, theres EVERY job imaginable on there

plus lots of different things to do in your spare time

you should also look at what in your life you can change, the down shift challenge is one way making sure you have the best energy deals is another
also make sure your claiming the right tax creditsI am not bossy I just have better ideas:p0 -
You could become agents for Jamie @ Home (Jamie Oliver party plan products) because I have heard that you can earn good money doing that plus you get commission if you had a party at your own house so that people could buy things for your wedding.
One of my friends got married at the end of June and she and her new hubby are heading off on the longest honeymoon ever - they are riding their motorbikes around the world and have even managed to get their motorbikes listed as hand luggage on a cruise ship.:eek:0 -

I use the cashback sites atm, doesn't make alot but always worth it if buying anything online, i've got about £50 in it atm
I like the cutting back on luxury items, I think it is a good point. The OH got aload of beers in over the world cup when they were on offer so he doesnt have to buy any for months & were looking at buying a big fidge freezer cos there is a place near his works which sells cheap meat which will save us some money on the shopping. Had 2 really nice sirlone steaks for £4 the other week!!! Nice treat.
We tried the GC a while back and I enjoyed that.. we must do it again and anything we dont save can go in a savings pot.
