Hi
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but couldn't find where was best.
A few weeks ago i received a letter at my house that wasn't for me so sent it back to the sender with a note on the front saying not know at this address. At the weekend i received another one, i have lived here for almost a year now and it is an unusual name so knew it had to be related to the one i received a few weeks ago.
I opened it and it's from a debt recovery agent called Philips based in Darlington. I tried to call them to say the debt in the letter is nothing to do with me but i couldn't get thru to speak to a human only all their computer options on the phone number it asks to call. I have emailed them and am waiting for a reply.
It says if it's not paid in 7 days they will instruct their solicitor to recover the debt or issue the case to their debt recovery agent to visit my house to get the money.
What can i do, it's nothing to do with me but because it's my address i worry they might just turn up at my door!?!?
IT's for £196.
I keep trying to call them but can never get to speak to a person so don't know what to do.
Thanks

Never ever phone a DCA never ever email a DCA all they will do now is bombard you with threats they now have your phone number and email address, If they turn up at your door which is highly unlikely , then call the police they are trespassing, ignore themGRADUATED FIRST CLASS WITH HONORS FROM THE SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS RECOMENDED READ IF BY RUDYARD KIPLING0

They are only tresspassing if you have told them not to visit. People have a common right to go onto property to deliver mail/ask for directions. You can remove this right.
Debt collectors have no rights do not always follow through with visits, they often do it just so they can ring the number of record. If they do show up you do not have to talk to them but as its nothing to do with you the quickest way is just show a copy of your mortgage statement/tenancy agreement.
That will give you the least hassle.
Debt collectors are not bailiffs, they cannot remove anything. If they try to remove anything or force entry the police will get involved as it is deemed criminal activity.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

When/if they turn up make sure you have proof of your ID and maybe your tenancy agreement to show when you moved in. Dont open any mail, return it un opened.
My other OH rents his house out - the last tenant gave prrof of ID to debt collectors who were after the previous tenants - no heard anything since.been away for a while..need to get on financial track! debts.....Post Grad Student Loan, Northern Rock Loan, Egg CC, Halifax CC, A&L CC, A&L overdraftAllotment plot holder since Feb 2008 :j0 -
