hi all
just wondering about music for the cermoney
no idea what music to have- is it normal to have a favourite song etc
also how long do you have the music on for?
do you have it in the room until you come in, then do you have another piece of music for me to walk down the aisle- how long is that music?
then do you have one for when signing register and then leaving?
its so confusing!!
thanks all xx

Hiya, we got married in the local city chambers in January. The registrar advised us about how to make up our own CD. The only restrictions in place (Scotland) were that we couldn't have anything religious (because God isn't in the building) and nothing with swearing in. The registrar advised us to make up to CD like this
Track 1 - music for bride to come in to (we had Etta James, At Last)
Tracks 2/3 - music for signing the register to (Elbow, Starlings and Mogwai, Black Spider)
Track 4 - music for you and your husband/partner to leave to (Morcambe and Wise, Bring Me Sunshine)
Tracks 5 onwards - anything you would like for background music before you arrive and for when you are milling about after the ceremony.
The registrar dealt with the CD himself and that's why he wanted it made up like that. My friend got married yesterday and one of the hotel staff did the needful with the CD.
You don't need to have anything particularly short - we were worried that the songs would be too long but the registrar reassured us that he would time it to fit.
The only bit of advice I would give you is for your first dance song - we chose Elbow, One Day Like This which we both love but at nearly 7 minutes long it seemed like an eternity to a couple who don't dance
Hope this helps.0 -
that really does help thank you very much
i was also worried about the length of the first dance song- we don't dance either, so going to not pick a long song!
thanks loads xIs a married woman!! 23rd July 2011 Best day of my life!

We had our own CD as well, with:
Tracks 1-3 - while guests take their seats (about 15 mins)
Track 4 - me walking down the aisle
Track 5-7 - register signing (about 15 mins)
Track 8 - walk back up the aisle to
For the tracks you use for walking down and up the aisle, make sure you don't have anything with a really long introduction. Walking down and up takes seconds even at a slow pace (we had a long aisle and it was still probably 30 seconds tops) - you don't want a track that takes a minute to get going.
For the first dance, choose a song you like and don't worry about the length. About halfway through you give the DJ the nod and he asks others to join you on the dance floor.
You can do this as early in the song as you like. I thought I'd be really embarrassed during the first dance but I loved it; I was so wrapped up in my new hubby that I didn't care about everyone watching.

We've been told by our registrar that they only want 4 tracks, one for walking in, two for register, one for exit. Nothing about muzak beforehand - may ask them about this!
The future missus wants all classical music - trying to persuade her to have something a bit different!0 -
Check with the venue/registrar. We've been told to put 5 songs/pieces of music on a CD - one to walk in to, 3 during the signing, one to leave to. Plus another CD with background music before I arrive and after/during meal etc.
The piece of music I was thinking of walking in to builds over the time it's played but the walk is pretty short so may change plans there.
3 for signing seemed a lot but they said some photographers can make that time last a long while!
Leaving - again a short walk but by then I probably won't care about the music
If it's a civil ceremony (in England at least, dont know if the same elsewhere) the music must be non-religious. It can be a song rather than instrumental but in some areas they check the music first and some can be stupidly strict (ie banning things with words like angel in lol)0 -
