Can They Do This

  • Hi there,

quick question regarding the same issue - I am over my overdraft on my halifax account by £115 due to charges being whacked on. I have an account with the bank of scotland which is just an easy cash account. My mum just paid in £25 to my easycash account as I am struggling on til payday, but it hasn't appeared in my account yet which is not normal. I have checked my online banking and been to a cash machine. I am wondering if they have taken the £25 to pay off some of my charges on my other account? Is this possible? Although saying that, there has been no change to my 115 charges - I would assume if this had happened it would have gone down immediatley to £90 charges?

sorry for blabbing on, if anyone has any advice would be much appreciated :)

Darkconvict did you mean BOS and not RBS?

I thought RBS were Natwest and BOS the Halifax.

Just so peeps don't panic :)

    You're correct.

    RBS own Natwest

    BoS own Halifax

They can't take benefits money as by definition it's the bare minimum you need to live off. You need to write to the bank to get 'first right of appropriation', so that they can't take it. You may need to do this every month/every time money comes in. I'm not sure what the situation is when it's not your bank taking it though. I'd send it to the bank and whoever took the money to be sure. I'm sorry but I don't have the template letter, maybe if you search the forums for it.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
