  • it can be very difficult to challenge bad practice if it is embedded in the culture of an organisation. Some things which may appear to be bad practice to an outsider may actually be sensible if you know the reasons - eg. dogs recoveing on the floor as discussed above, so often you question your own judgement when presented with things you dont feel comfortable about, especially if they appear to be taken for granted as the norm by other (often more senior) members of staff.

No, i dont. My vet opened his own practice just a few years ago and he has been reallyh good since we changed there.

I was at a chain before and it wasnt good at all. With Buddy having diabetes i had to change as it was what was best for him, the first week of finding out that Buddy is diabetic was horrendus. Alot of conflickting diagnosis from 5 different vets in 5 days - Not good at all.

I am so glad we have a great Vet, I know we are very lucky.
He is a small practice and is on hand 24/7, he puts the animal first everytime.
A couple of years ago the part of Doncaster I live in was hit by the floods, our Vet took in all the animals he could and kept them safe. He needs a medal, as does his staff.
So three cheers for one of the best and most caring Vet I have ever had the pleasure to know.

Yes, I am a vet - have been for 20 years and have been in a lot of practices, most of which would from time to time have animals partly recovering from anaesthetics on the floor, when it was the best option at the time!

I can see the sense in allowing a dog to partly recover on the floor.

But there is no excuse for putting a dog on a bare floor which is what was said in Post #5

I'd just like to add that MediVet are a chain of vets, a big company, and they in no way reflect your usual small business local vets.
    Just an observation
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

This will certainly make interesting viewing. I think it is good to watch programmes like this - as long as you watch with a balanced outlook and remember that what you're being shown is (hopefully) a rare extreme. Knowing what can go on, makes us that little bit more wary and observant - and when it comes to something like our pet's health, that can only be a good thing. I like programmes that raise awareness in a sensible way, not just sensationalism and scaremongering.
