What to look for in a DJ?

This is proving to be hardest to find?
We are having a civil wedding in a hotel and the hotel resident DJ is priced at £200.
I used to walk at a football club and their resident DJ and match day speaker was absolutely garbage, which has put me off getting the resident one.
How do you look for a DJ? What isa decent price? Amd what am i actually looking for apart from the types of music?
Im in the North West area. Widnes area!!

Hi
I would say you need to sit down with a potential DJ and see what kind of music they play, make sure they have the stuff you want as well as the latest hits and the good old boogie songs to get everyone up and dancing.
See how you feel about the dj when you meet him. Is it just a side line, does he do it for a living? Is he passionate about it? it can make a huge difference to how the night goes.
Im also in the NW, we're paying £300 for a DJ/singer. 7pm-midnight disco and 2 x 30min sets.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Hi - i am paying £250 for our dj, this is for him to be there from 7pm-Midnight. I think he is a bit cheaper than most round here who charge between £350 and £600 ( ) for the same amount of timeBaldrick, does it have to be this way? Our valued friendship ending with me cutting you up into strips and telling the prince that you walked over a very sharp cattle grid in an extremely heavy hat?0

Sammy, do you mind telling who it is. Would like a singer also.

I agree with the others - you need to speak to the DJ and sit down with him to discuss music, why not see if you can see him perform? Hotel DJs tend to be fairly good as they have to play a huge range of music for the various types of clientele. The resident DJ already knows the rooms too so will know how to set up his equipment - maybe the football club didnt have great acoustics which wouldnt have helped the DJ.
£200 is a good price for a DJ - most of them that I know charge £300-£50.
Contact entertainment agencies for bands/singers - ask for a demo disc so that you can hear them and ask where they are performing so that you can see them too as this will help you make a decision.0 -
