Ok - here's the thing. We are being sensible this year and having a "staycation".
But I am keen on going to France next year and so ( to avoid boredom whilst on my staycation!) I have been surfing the net trying to see the cheapest way to take a touring caravan from N Ireland to France next summer.
Have done this before and went down through England but wonder if it would be better to go from South Ireland as only one ferry journey rather than two. Having said that we used our Tesco Rewards to pay one set of the ferry tickets so that was quite a good saving.
Has anyone out there any good advice?

Hi Chocohen,
Welcome to MSE
We did the same thing for years (without the caravan) when our children were smaller and always found it cheaper to travel via England. Saying that we had family there to stay with overnight which cut costs a bit. From reading posts on MSE and my own research I think that crossing directly from Ireland is less stressful, but still more expensive.
Please post back to let us know what you decide and I hope you enjoy your holiday at home this year.

Chocohen,
I posted a similar query on 16th June - 'Travel from NI to France by car'. You may like to look at my replies.

Thanks for the useful feedback. As you could see it was my first post to this forum and it is always nice to get a reply.
I checked out the previous thread and it was interesting. A few seemed to rate the freight ferries. I quite like the idea of the overnight ferry from ireland to france. A few years back we took the Hull-Zeebrugge overnight ferry and this was terrific for various reasons -1 You got a good nights sleep and were bright eyed and bushy tailed next morning for the days driving across Belgium and France 2 the evening meal and breakfasts were fab and 3 At that time we were able to "pay" with Tesco vouchers and so it felt like it was a free mini cruise! A super way to start and end a holiday abroad.0 -
Hi, we have used the Rosslare to Roscoff ferry for the past few years and found it great and very stress free! In saying that, we don't have children and are able to avail of cheaper fares in June. You could register with Irish Ferries website as they are quite good at sending through latest deals via email. I've seen it as cheap as 99 euros one way.0
