with airlines having all sorts of differrent policies for luggage allowances .. one thing for sure is it's only going to get worse , the heavier your luggage .
So ... priority has to be finding the most lightweight suitcases possible ... (particularly the larger ones ) .. with of course the best durability ... and of course at the lowest possible price !!
.. normal MSE rules .. rolls royce at robin reliant price !!
any suggestions ? . Lightweight really is the issue here.

I bought a couple of Tesco value suitcases last year and we have been abroad with them twice and they are still as new
It was quite a big case for under £15 and the main reason we got them was how light they are.

There's a load of lightweight suitcases listed at Amazon although the ones I looked at didn't strike me as being particularly light. For example the 28'' one at the top of the listing weighs 3.5 Kgs.

This company claims to have the lightest suitcases but a 26'' one is still 2 and a half kilos.

The other thing you could try is a holdall. Because they're not rigid like suitcases they're especially useful for hand luggage because you can squash them into those overhead lockers. This example which costs £29 delivered converts into a backpack and weighs 1.4 Kgs.

And at Argos
