Well, I filled in my tax return last week for the first time. Have now received a nice tax rebate in my bank account. HMRC are ok with me!

I'm planning on doing mine in a few weeks, hoping for a big fat rebate, but I've no idea what I'll get, if anything. Whilst I've done 6 or 7 jobs that were massive paper-losses, I do regular jobs each month that make a fairly healthy paper profit, so no idea yet!
Fingers crossed though...0 -

If you have registered as self-employed, you should receive a self-assessment notification through the post. One word about the small earnings certificate - if you are planning on having any children in the near future, its worth paying the £2 or so a week NI contributions as the amount of maternity pay you get is about £120 a week compared to £25. It doesn't go on earnings, just paying the self-employed NI rate ensures you are entitled to the full benefit. I think if you have the exemption certificate, you also lose out on other benefit entitlements, but I might be wrong. Hope this helps someoneJanuary 2012 GC £296.96/£3000 -

I'm below it as well but have other income and wasn't sure how complicated that would make it. Have redundancy money sitting in the bank that I had paid tax on some interest, and that's where my rebate has come from. Pleasantly surprised about how quickly they paid it.0 -
hmmm i have not sorted tax yet, planning on doing it this week. i registered as self-employed over the phone but i have not been sent a form and i cant seem to do it online as need a code. going to phone them.
according to my spreadsheet i owe about £260 tax on what i earnt last year. although that does not take into account my blackberry contract that i use just for mystery shopping so will be adding that on as an expense. should reduce it:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j0 -
What have you done?
I have no idea. A sentence telling you you're no wanted longer on the programme doesn't tell you anything. Another company disappeared from my profile overnight as well. I now haven't bothered doing the reports I owed them so they'll have to get someone to do those again.0
