That's really good value, as I tend to buy Tesco cheap brand, which is priced at 31p per can.

Thanks for this as I need to stock up on both. Can I ask what brand these are as the only ones on offer in my Asda are 3 for a pound.

  • Chickpeas around 20p a tin at your local Asian/Indian shop, can work out as little as 10p a can if you buy a case of 12.
  • Went to Asda in Brighton tonight to stock up on tomatoes, 3 tins for £1, same with the chick peas.

If you have a Somerfield local to you it's worth checking it out.

My local had pallets of 400g cans of Simply Value Plum Tomatoes for 16p and 400g cans of Simply Value Chopped Tomatoes for 17p. This is part of a half price promotion on own brand Somerfield products which are presumably being cleared with an upcoming total switch to the Co-op brand. From posts on other forums I understand this is in all Somerfield stores.

DO NOT buy Somerfield brand chopped tomatoes (with herbs/garlic) (standard not value). They are liquid with almost no flesh. The worst I have ever bought. Fortunately I only tried a couple but will still be taking them back despite being reduced.
