Want to start over again

Hi all
Although I have this website in my favourites this is the first time I have posted here. Here I go.....
I really want to start over again, my OH lost his job 2 year ago but eventually found a job earlier on this year, however we have been struggling for a long time now and I want to start afresh.
I hate my house and we are paying 2 mortgages on it, we also have a secured loan and credit card debt coming out of our ears. I would love to get rid of my house and start again by renting as I know we wouldn't get another mortgage (got a letter today saying that our June payments didn't get made and need to be paid in 7 days). I have asked my boss for more hours but the business is struggling at the moment so that was that. I ebay and gumtree to make some money but that covers bills etc.
OH is sticking his head in the sand and I am trying to stay positive for the kids.
I would love to sell my house but I know this would be expensive and probably wouldn't be able to afford it and wouldn't know where to start.
Sorry for waffling on but any advice would be much appreciated.

Please can you post a statement of affairs? It involves thinking honestly about your debts and incomings/outgoings. With exact information, you will get good advice.
Use this calculator:

Good on you for staying positive for the kids. Keep focused on them and the good things in your life to keep your spirits up. Don't despair - plenty of other people in similar situations and posting here to ask for help is the first step to finding a solution.0 -
Hi. I would suggest you do your SOA and then get in touch with one of the debt charities Martin recommends - ie National Debtline or your local CAB or CCCS.
Your first priorities are to keep yourselves fed and clothes and a roof over your head - as you are behind on the mortgage then this should be a priority. If you have credit cards or other unsecured loans then you need to look at writing to them, advising them you are seeking advice from a debt charity and giving them a token payment - ie 1 pound. Any money this frees up should go towards the mortgage.
You also need to make sure you are getting any benefits you are entitled to.
IF your income is not enough to cover food, mortgage, council tax, electric and gas etc (the essentials) and you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to then there are other options but see how you get on with the SOA and phoning the debt charities first. Good Luck

Yes tax and benefits entitlement is a good idea. Check https://www.entitledto.co.uk to see if you're entitled to something more than you're getting.0

Thanks for the advice guys, just trying to get my OH to realise that we need to do something. Going to take time over the weekend to see exactly where we are at and then take some action. Will keep you updated.0

Hey lynsayloo, thought I'd pop over to your thread inbetween choc ices

Statement of affairs is the best way to go, like everyone else has said, it'll mean that people can spot any obvious area's that you and OH are overspending on.
Try to keep your chin up and stay positive. This site is brilliant for all sorts of help and tips, especially old style board, you can get some really good moneysaving hints.

Thanks GEEGEE8 and thanks for looking at my thread.
I have decided that tomorrow I am going to do a massive clearout and go ebay crazy, I've got lots to get rid of and I've done it before and I can make some serious money doing it. I am also getting rid of all my excerice equipment which I use as clothes hangers in my room so that will bring in some more.
I feel a bit more positive tonight knowing that I am not the only one in this situation just need to get OH to open up his eyes.
HeyHo just got to get on with it I suppose, going to let the dog out and then raid the freezer to see if I have any choc ices lurking around, really fancy one and bet I don't have any.
Thanks again for cheering me up.0 -
Haha - I am responsible for mass clearouts of choc ices! lol
It's hard to get someone to understand, writing it all down will help though, especially if he see's it all in black and white and realises the situation.
I love eBay, sold mostly everything of value already, but always coming across random things to sell.
I'm not the only one that uses expensive exercise machines as clothes horses then.. haha.9/70lbs to lose
