Do you base your beauty budget on others

Just wondering if anyone else is like me. If a friend or relative is cutting down on certain items I tend to feel I should do also as I feel I am being extravagant.
For instance a friend of mine used to swear by Clinique eye make up remover but now she feels its too expensive so she's buying a cheaper one but she admits its not working the same. I automatically at the time felt extragant for buying Clinique skincare so I decided to go cheaper.
Another friend has cut down on her beauty budget and is saying Clinique etc is too expensive yet she has eyelash extensions which cost her £25 every three weeks and she has her hair coloured at the salon whereas I colour my own hair.
I do cut costs where I feel appropriate, for instance I prefer my hair now I am colouring it myself from when I went to the salon and spent a fortune, but I do prefer Clinique cleanser and some of their make up.
I don't know why I beat myself up about this but I do, anyone else the same?

i dont, but to be honest none of my mates are as into makeup as i am lol, it's always been like that!! my cousin is as bad as me and we love buying new stuff, she's just become a fan of the gosh range and i must admit their bronzer looks lovely on her, but i thought 3 for £15 was expensive, yet i'm now looking at "investing" in a decent foundation but am gulping at the price tag lol! if you're happy and you can afford it comfortably, enjoy!!!0

No sorry. I would not be influenced into cutting back if a friend did.
I would however keep quiet about my own purchases if I knew that they were finding it hard to afford the same things.0 -

Hi, no I don't go on about my purchases when I do get anything a bit more expensive, I just feel guilty about buying it.0 -
Look at this way; your friend is spending money at the salon that you're not, so you're spending money on Clinique...** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

I didn't think you did - we all have our priorities. I'll buy Christian Louboutin shoes and Mulberry handbags but we kept theTV for over 25 years until forced to replace it becuase analogue was switched off around here and the TV didn't have a scart socket for a digibox.
If you can afford it you shouldn't feel guilty - a signature I use on another forum is
