Are you sure? I'm sure I've read recent threads where people have done this and the job centre have been fully aware. As long as you are looking for a job then you can claim.

As far as I knew, your not able to claim JSA during summer time (throughout the course of the programme) unless you have a partner who doesnt work and a child, and what happens is you can both apply as joint applicants. Havent really looked into this, but as a single person I wasnt allowed to claim JSA during summer term as your student loan covers the entire year not just the academic term. This is why you also get council tax free during the entire year not just academic term.

Yes I'm sure. Only lone parens or couples responsible for a child can claim JSA in the summer.

No, sorry, you are quite correct, I've found the post and I'm wrong, you can't claim.

Can't you just not go back in? Then they will just stop paying you and cancel your claim.

Tell them you weren't sure if you could get in and were still looking for a job before confirming your place.

I doubt they will care to be honest, especially if they are happy for people to sign on in the summer holidays.

    I love Geography! :D

I suppose so! I just hope they don't chase it up...
Me too! Although i'm not very good at it :(

OP - there should be no problem. All I did was ak "how do I sign off?" and that was it.

Just do what sh1305 has said, just ask to sign off.

How many weeks before I start uni do you reckon I should sign off?

EDIT: If I don't find a job by then?

Hi, if you are starting a new course in September you can claim JSA up to the day before you start your course. There is no harm in telling the Jobcentre that you are going to Uni in September and as long as you are available and looking for work there shouldn't be a problem, they will realise that you are only looking for temporary work until the start of your course. Just sign on normal and on your last signing day before you start Uni hand in your ES40 to confirm that you no longer wish to claim JSA from the date you start University. Hope this helps.
