electric Guitar!!!!

Hi Guy's

Hope someone can advise as i am a little lost.

Have promised my DS age 13 a electric guitar and he is due to start lessons in the next couple of weeks, what would be the best one to get him without going too mad on the budget, only want to spend about £130 ish, he wants to play Rock if that helps.

thanks in advance...............

  • This looks like a great deal, and it's prety cheap: Ibanez RX 240 Electric Guitar -- Great for beginners

    Make a search on eBay.

You will also have to buy him an amplifier, you should check your local musician's store.

I'm a similarly lost parent, but my daughter takes Yamaha lessons, so she started with a Yamaha Pacifica, and she's been really happy with it. Two years later, she has had a more expensive acoustic guitar, but she still uses the Yamaha to play rock.

They're a bit over budget new from Amazon, but there seem to be some very good deals on ebay...a lot of kids start and don't carry on!!

Depends on how commited your son is to playing guitar and what styles of music he likes(theres more differences than just acoustic or electric guitars). Both the yamaha and ibanez suggestions should be ok as they are popular brands. If your willing to pay £20-50 extra(depending on whether you shop around) you could get a squier tele custom 2 which is my favourite budget price guitar(which i own and it plays better than my ibanez that was £350. Whatever you choose to buy don't go for the ones that they sell in argos. Get a good brand that you would find in a music shop.

i had an ibanez years ago as my first guitar and it was brilliant. held tune really well and sounded lovely.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

Go to a local music store with your son or daughter and tell the guy's what your needs are, it's better to get the very best cheap guitar than the cheap and crap because there gonna enjoy playing it more and its gonna inspire them to continue unlike a cheap badly made guitar which will put them off playing, be tricky to play etc. I've been playing over 3 years now guitar and bass my first guitar was good but not great i hated learning with it, when i got a better guitar still cheap that was comfortable and set up correctly i loved it i played and played and im better for it. Music shops set there guitars up and will make any adjustments your son or daughter might want now for free or in the future for a very little price this and a decent set of strings will make all the difference.

Would be worth getting a pack of spare guitar strings (9s are normally used for rock). Pretty easy to break when starting out and its a !!!!!! when one goes and you cant play until you next go to town
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!
