i like the beetle. i wouldn't drive one myself, but the finacee was going to buy one if she got enough for her current 206,she didn't get enough for it so she still has it.
the beetle is much nicer than her 206. and as the op pointed out they hold thier value really well.
if you want the beetle and can afford it then get it.
i will agree about the qashqai, its a very bland car with the looks to entice only a pensioner....work permit granted!0 -
The Beetle is a great car......for a girl :-)0

That made me laugh 99.9% of cars are better than a 206 so thats hardly a reason to buy a Beetle!
Has anyone noticed how Beetles looks almost the same from the rear as the front? fortunately VW thought of this and put different coloured lights on each end so as not to confuse the typical Beetle driver. Perhaps they should have put a swivel seat inside so if you hit a traffic jam you could just swivel around and go back the way you came.
Mind you a swivel seat would have felt a bit like being the rear gunner in a WWII Heinkel Bomber, oops we are back to blitzing London again!
Those Germans gotta love em, failed at dropping magnesium on us so sold it to us shaped into duff cars instead, apparently even Skoda turned their nose up at the bits its made of..
But its like a lot of women, a case of more style over function, and looking pretty won't get you a plate of egg and chips on a Friday night. If thats the message you want to send go for it, be the pretty, carefree one, run, run free as the plastic Marigold in your dashboard, I will take the Qashqai and a 4 wheel driven boot of eggy chips any day.0 -
VW beetles are vile cars. If you want a cute girly car, get a daihatsu copen or whatever its called.0

If you want one - go for it. You won't regret it. My wife wanted one for a long time, so a couple of years ago we bought a salsa red Beetle Cabriolet with a black roof. It wasn't the fastest car around, but she loved it. It wasn't anything special to drive, basically a Golf with a different body, and althought the boot was a fair size, getting stuff in and out of it was a pain due to the odd shaped opening.
It was fairly cheap to run - 1.6 petrol, and the one we had had a few extras like leather seats, parking sensors, CD changer and stuff. It was a comfy car to be in for longer distances and would happily sit all day on the motorway at between 70 - 80.
We ended up selling ours because it wasn't practical - we bought a dog and two adults, two young kids and the dog just didn't fit, however much we tried.
My wife isn't 'into' cars at all, but I know for a fact that she would have another Beetle Cab tomorrow given the opportunity. Must be something about them...0 -
If you're anything like me op, if it's something you desire nothing else will do. I always wanted a new mini (I've had loads of old mini's) but they weren't practical as I had a disabled mother with a wheelchair and needed something suitable. When my mother passed away I bought a mini and loved it at first then after about 12 months I realised how impractical it was so it had to go. I'm glad I got it because If I'd never had one, I'd still want one, if you know what I mean, so go for it.
