I have had a seriously bad lust for Beetles for about...ohhh idunno, about 10 years now.

The closest I've got to one is my current VW Lupo.
Lovely wee car and and all, but I still want my Beetle :o

I scour the car ad's and showrooms frequently, but they're just so ridiculously expensive.
OH also tells me I shouldn't get one cos its ugly (says he who is getting a Nissan Qashqai yuk!)
and to change a light you gotta remove the whole bumper..
urgh ...

*cries*

Anyone got a Beetle and like to share their experience?

They are seriously uncool, no I really mean really really uncool, probably why the prices are high because there is a shortage of supply - because not many people bought them in the first place, what does that tell you?

Have you seen the boot? rubbish to drive too. If you must go retro and express your style then get a Mini with a daft pattern on the roof or a pink Fiat 500 or something.

I'm not keen on them but they definitely aren't "uncool". They come with a flower sticking out of the dash - how cool is that? :)

My girlfriend likes them as well and they are basically a Golf so you can't go wrong when it comes to reliability. I thought the prices had come down a fair bit? VW's do hold their value though, which is a good thing because although they cost more to start with you wont lose so much in depreciation. Same goes for BMW, why do you think the police buy these now instead of vauxhalls?

Have you seen the boot in a Lupo? :rotfl:

    It's about I
    I ... that size

Mini and Fiat500 don't make me smile like the Beetle they make me want to vomit.
I'm never going to get over this obsession am I?
I know it's wrong to love it but I can't help myself. It's like fancying a teacher at school or something :rotfl:

As for the price being high, they are expensive even second hand :(

I hadn't realised that they had been around 12 years. Who'd want something as antiquated as that?

    LOL@ flower comment.
I'd have the flower whipped out right away and replaced with a daily fresh bunch of thistles and heather :D.

My OH spotted a BMW assist van the other day, it was VW van.
He pondered this for a moment as they used to use BMW estates for their Assist services, then came to the conclusion that the Germans of awesomeness must obviously keep to their own kind and not downgrade to the likes of a Transit :rotfl:.
A year ago I forked out just under £5k in cash for a 54 Plate TDI Lupo with 30k on the clock. It runs like a dream and I just love the feel of a VW, very sturdy. I have test drove a Beetle and the driving experience is pretty similar, except the Beetle felt like I was steering a boat (My previous cars are corsa and micra lol)

Edit: Getting about £3k back if I sold my Lupo with 42k on the clock now..

My mum likes them but I find them a bit toy like. This one is £6500 and second hand! Bit steep but I guess it proves they are well loved cars? It's cute topless..

I'd have the cabriolet version any day except I live in a very dodgy area so the roof would probabaly get slashed

I though it was cause BMW's are driven by t0ssers and the police are......, well you can guess the rest!
I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling ;)

You can replace the flower with a sprig of Lavender so it smells like your Nan, except your Nan probably won't be as old as this old skateboard.

Get over it, move on, it won't love you back, it will just haul you around begrudgingly like a belligerent old pony. You deserve better, no matter how you look at it, its just some left over old Golf bits cobbled together in a shell of sentimentality. Is it worth sentiment? the original Beetle was designed to get the German factories working after the war, the early engine castings were made of alloys destined for bombs to drop on London. And Herbie? really a lovable rascal? or more likely a machine possessed by an evil demonic force...

try to see the truth, otherwise one day it will all end in heartbreak. :p
