My DS will be 8 soon, he would like a party and I happy for him to have one, providing it is a reasonable cost and not going to be too hyper!!
He was asking for a Camping themed sleepover, which I was unsure if they were a little young for this, but he seems to have gone off the idea.
We went to a party of a friend of his yesterday, his whole class was invited to a hall, it was very much let them run free and we'll play some games on the way. But 7/8 yr old boys being boys ran riot....I don't think I could cope with that!! So it needs to be something that will keep them busy and out of mischief.
I don't want to do the typical bowling party (have been to 8 of them already this year) etc, like to make it a bit different.
Any ideas welcome.

You say you don't want the typical bowling party but have you looked into Laser Quest/Quasar. We did it for my son last year for his 7th birthday and he wants the same again this year. They run around inside shooting at each other for about 1.5 hours come out get fed in party room given party bag and home. It was the easiest party ever and with boys that is saying something. I boosted the party bags a bit and for a cake I did cup cakes which they had as their pudding so didn't even need to slice and wrap it. Dad went in with them to [STRIKE]play[/STRIKE] assist but they have someone from the place in as well.
If you have a tenpin center near you you can use tesco vouchers to pay for the party so very MSE.

Yes, he's been to a few there and doesn't want to a party there and my DD really not a keen swimmer, but thanks. You say you don't want the typical bowling party but have you looked into Laser Quest/Quasar. No tenpin centre near hear just googled them - that would of been handy.
Have been looking at laser parties, but the nearest Qausar is about 15 miles away, so maybe difficult getting them there and it says age 8 up on the website, most of his friends will still be 7 he is the oldest in his year......wonder if we would get away with it!!
Then there is an outdoor laser adventure place about 15 miles in the other direction which I am sure it would be amazing and is from 6 up but its £20 per head with a minimum of 10, can't really stretch to that!!
Thanks!:hello:0 -
Football Party? - local leisure centre may do something
Pet Shop Party - my son went to one of these. Basically a hall was hired and a pet shop bring along various pets for the Children to see/hold.
Bouncy Castle Party - either at home, local leisure centre may have something or hire a hall and a castle

Football might be an idea.
I have not seen a pet shop locally for years!!
Bouncy Castle.....NO WAY  ....had some of these when he was younger, fine then....but they are far too boisterous now, you should of seen the wrestling and playfighting going on the floor of the hall last night, I am having visions of no ends of bumps and bruises!!! :rotfl::hello:0 -
Another option my son (8 this year) went for this year was a Pizza Making Party at Pizza Express (don't know if Pizza Hut offer it too?). They get shown step-by-step how to do it and they get to choose their own toppings. Pizza Express cook them really quickly and then the kids get to eat them there and then.
(I wouldn't say this is an 'easy option' though, depends on the person teaching them - ours was a teenager who wasn't good at controlling the rowdies!- we find ourselves having to maintain the discipline!
)
They also brought out the cake (which you buy) with all the candles
lit. This was £10 a head.
Another possibility anyway.I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderfulMarilyn Monroe0 -
If youve a Taybarns near to you, Taybarns do parties as well. They make a pizza and eat it. Havent been to one before.0

Don't know what kind of party you are after, but last year (my DS turned 8), I threw a Star Wars party. Held it at the house, made a Yoda birthday cake, painted some signs on some old card board (one Star Wars logo and one as a target).
All kids were fancy dress, we had light sabre training (most brought their own), pass the Death Star (filled a balloon with loads of sweets and wrapped it in tin foil, played the game like pass the parcel until the balloon popped and sweets went flying!), phaser training (split kids into teams and used the painted target, each ring scored different points and the team with the most won). Had loads of fun...and of course party food and party bags.
Am in the middle of planning his 9th birthday party (again a home party), which is going to be a Rock n Roll party. Cake is going to be an electric guitar, games will be Lego Rock Band on the Wii (still thinking of others...), there will be VIP Backstage passes (made and laminated) as the party invites, inflatable guitars, different coloured hairspray (will ask parents permission first ;p). Will also paint/draw various rock related designs. The party food area will be the desgnated VIP area. Might even put a studded colar on the dog and cats!!!!0 -
Do you have a 'Goals' football centre near you?
They do a birthday package for £157 for 10 children.
It might sound a lot at first but that includes:
Coach for 1 hour
Hot Dogs/Pizza lunch
extra 1/2 hour play
football and trophy for birthday child
team photo
cake
party bags
The boys had a fab time!!! My son felt very special.
I have done parties at home for 6 kids and probably spent more - make more food cos parents stay. Party bags and game prizes and cake probably spend £20.
I also consider the fact that it is not stressful for me and I don't have to spent the week making sure the house will be spotless!!!Plan to PAD Everyday 2024Credit Card - £3662.99 (int free to 11/11/25) -PAD TotalsJan 2024 -0
