Marque Help.

Hi

My partner and I have been to a local wedding venue and totally fallen in love with it. We are a little stumped as the only reception room the have sits 70 (we are both from big welsh valley families and will need at least 90!!) We have only just nought our first house after years of saving the ridiculous deposit and are now starting the saving all over again for the wedding in 2012.

the co-ordinator has suggested having a MArque in the formal gardens and we are so keen on this as it would allow us to have the relaxed wedding we were hoping for with all our families and friends. Does anyone out there have any Marque hints and tips when going for quites or good companies that work in the south wales area? this is totally new to us and any help and guidance will be greatfully recieved!!

Thanks xx

Your venue is bound to have had marquees erected in their grounds before so your first port of call is them as they are likely to know various suppliers.

Ask if the marquee comes with a boarded floor or just carpet..it is better to have a boarded floor especially on soft ground because if it rains even though the carpet is inside the marquee it soaks up water from the ground. Ask if lights are included as well as any drapes, will they include a bar area or will this be extra, will they provide heaters (these might be necessary at night when it is colder).

A marquee can cost around £3K so be prepared for this extra cost. Remember that you will have to hire tables and chairs to go inside the marquee as well (the venue might not supply these).

I had the exact same problem in the welsh valleys!!! More guests than could fit in the venue we loved which was a barn in Brecon (not the same place is it?? :). We have gone for a very basic marquee. From www.countymarquees.co.uk .They are based in chepstow but work in south wales alot i think.

We are still having the nighttime entertainiment in the barn so we dont needs loads of lighting, heating, dance floor or bar. We will just be having speeches and food in marquee. For the most basic marquee for 90 ppl with tables and chairs, lighting and flooring, it is costing us around £1500 from this company, which isnt too bad given marquees often cost in excess of £2000. Its still a lot of money and we had to think long and hard about it but my OH really wanted everyone to be seated so we had to go for this option in the end.

Our wedding theme is kinda rustic garden party so we're not bothering with all the fancy drapes etc which push the price up. We're just having plain marquee and are going to decorate us ourselves with flowers, bunting and little rustic decorations, I am very excited about this depsite the cost as its allowing us to personalise our wedding much more.

    Hope this helps.
