Additonal Driver on Policy (Teenager)

Hiya there,
Well my auntie ( who i live with) was going to add me onto her insurance (she drives a little smart car, 2 seats, 598cc engine,semi-auto), Upon doing this we have found (considering I am 17,M, and have just passed my test) that as we all know its sky rocket ! lol, I was just wondering we have serahced numerous comparison sites and the cheapest we get from these is £1970 , the cheapest overall quote we were given was on the off chance by Tesco car insurance for 950 and thats only third party, Now I think thats the cheapest we are going to get :-(, considering she has more than 10 years no claim bonus and has been driving since the 80's, we live in a good are and the car would rarely be used by me just the occasional trip out and stuff, I was just wondering does people think 950 is still high ? considering everything ive said above or is it reasonable ?,, and if you think its too high then whos cheap for this kind of thing ? any tips ? many thanks for any advice :o)

Do you (and your auntie) appreciate that if she goes on to third party insurance she won't have any cover for any damage that is done to her little smart car? So if you (or she) have a smash, then she would have to pay for the repairs herself (or worse if it was smashed too badly to repair, scrap it and buy a new car with her own money).

The only way all repairs would get paid for would be if a third party was found to be 100% liable for the damage, in which case your auntie would have to pursue the third party for the cost of the damage.

Ok - but it's a big risk for your auntie! (Bet you know of some people your age who wrecked the car in their first 12 months after passing!)

Sometimes its cheaper (if you don't want to ever claim) to get comprehensive insurance with a massive excess. (eg swiftcover let you take a voluntary excess of £1000)

    Yeh do i ! lol

I know that people probs hear teenagers say it all the time, But I genuinely am quite sensible (I like to think lol), I would genuinley take care of the car , and my main purpose for the car would be to go to work in it occasionaly and the ocassional trip to tesco for food shoopping etc, Its not to go and sit in with my friends and just cruise about, not my thing lol , Just wish it wasn't so darn expensive, I can see why it is, with the amount of nutcases you get grrrr ! lol
