Why does ASDA not have loyalty card?

When their competitors Tesco, Sainsbury etc. have it?

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I have seen this answered on a sign in their store before, they say rather than have the costs of administering such a scheme, they prefer to just keep their prices as low as possible. So the costs they are saving by not having such a scheme, means their prices stay lower for the customers, whereas with the other supermarkets loyalty schemes, the pricing in store has to be slightly higher to cover the costs of administering the scheme.
Understandable when I think about it, and perhaps one of the reasons they have been awarded cheapest supermarket for the 13th year running.0 -
I wish they would improve the quality of the meat though. I buy Morrisons as it's British and it showsI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I remember Asda used to have a fuel loyalty card, then they did away with it saying that they would be the cheapest per L instead and that would make up for it - pfff used to get 2p per L equivalent and they are never 2p cheaper!
It's only a game

They don't have a loyalty card but my brother will only shop at Asda and he uses their Reward CC to claim back some vouchers toward a shop at the end of each year.
You also get free delivery for online orders of £99+ and a discount at Asda Living when using the card

I don't shop there - none near - but they are consistently the cheapest of the supermarkets, so the other way of looking at it is that loyalty cards from Tesco etc are paid for by consumers with higher prices.0

Whatever the reason, I wonder what alternative means ASDA have for collecting the valuable statistical data on shopping habits that such a scheme provides.
Maybe they track purchases against credit/debit card numbers instead - less accurate data, but free.0 -
Every now and then, maybe even only once a year, they ask all shoppers for their postcode. Still not quite so accurate but a rough idea for them.0

Anyway, I found a reason in ASDA's own site.

Yes, it costs money to have a such a scheme in place. however, I only shop at Tesco and get Fuel from Tesco for the simple fact I get the rewards. Personaly I would rather shop at asda, however the rewards from Tesco keep me going there.
Im sure Im not the only one that stays loyal to tesco for the clubcard points! Just think how many more regular customers Asda would have with this scheme. Tescos don't do it to lose money!!0
