Postage is a tad high don't you think

Just browsing and found this... I know people make a bit extra on postage but this is out of order.

A good way to make sure they get cash upon collection though..After all the comments on here about not taking pay pal for a collection only items this makes sure that not one is going to pay by pay pal in a million years :)

They say that they'll accept paypal or cash on collection. I've won a couple of collection items recently where the sellers have asked for paypal payment, I tried telling them that they're leaving themselves open for scams but they didn't want to change to cash.

I once tried to help someone with low fb (assumed she hadn't listed before and had made a mistake), by asking if she had made a mistake with the P+P copsts as they were showing as £30, should they be £3?
No, she said. That's how much the postage cost is bacuase the item is only starting at 99p!!

Needless to say, I didn't bid.

Well, they seem to have got the princely sum of 1p - they might have got more if they had set the postage at a reasonable level! I often do a search for price including P&P, lowest up - this would have been the last one I looked at!

Sorry but what scams? I have taken paypal for something the buyer collected in person once before and that went OK. I didn't think you were allowed to say cash on collection in the ad?

There is the possibility that some people will collect an item, having paid by Paypal, then claw the money back by claiming Item Not Received, knowing that the seller hasn't sent it tracked.

Like all scams there are documented cases. Like all scams, people don't always take advantage even if they know about the possibilities in the system.

You have to offer Paypal on all eBay items except for some categories, but in practice, people usually take cash when they go to pick up an item; you are only allowed to ask for cash on collection items, not on anything else, but you are allowed to accept whatever you want.

It's at your discretion - some people think everyone takes advantage of everything, some people are equally fairly naive. I personally speaking would rather not carry too much cash on me at once if I'm going to a strange neighbourhood, but I wouldn't necessarily buy something collection only because I don't drive, meaning I have no real knowledge of what I would do. I do know that once an item is paid for by me, it stays paid for. But there are two sides to this coin, so it's worth flagging it up all the same.

To be honest, you can claim anything that turns up untracked paid for by Paypal back as Item Not Received. But I would assume only a tiny minority of people ever do that compared to the genuine reasons for claiming an INR.

LOL don't know why that didn't occur to me - I needed to have the item collected as it was too bulky to send by post and would have been too expensive for what it was to send by courier and I actually just put paypal as the payment method when I had cheque or postal order as an alternative for everything else I'd listed 'cos I worried I might get given a duff cheque!

I suppose there's risks in every aspect of selling on eBay and I may yet fall foul of a scammer - not going to let it put me off since I don't sell regularly or sell anything of particularly high value.

Since I kinda hijacked this thread though, I think my postage charges are reasonable though - weight of item plus a bit to cover packaging. Mind you a penny for two booster seats is a bargain...:rotfl:
