When the children were young and we had very little, I used to bulk buy and then pay myself as I used stuff. eg. I would buy a sack of potatoes and bag them into 5lb bags (as they were usually sold) Then 'buy' a bag at shop prices when needed. The accumulated cash then bought the next bag and gave me extra for a huge tin of Nes***fe which was divided into 8oz amounts and then 'bought' from myself. A bit anal but not too time-consuming! When we became more affluent, I stopped - must consider doing it again as the pension is squeaking.

One good thing is I haven't bought toothpaste since before Christmas. The local paper ran a promotin for Colgate offering a free tube every day for a week. I am just using the last! (prepare self for massive increase in cost of toothpaste)

OH insists on drinking posh coffee and there's no way I can get around it, he noticed when I tried to sub it with the cheaper stuff.

It's like having a cat, isn't it? Once a cat is given the best food, (s)he will not touch the cheap stuff again.

I will not drink instant coffee. Bad tea I can drink. Bad coffee I can't.
