cpcs card

Does anyone know if there is any funding available for the cpcs cards? My partner has passed the cscs card but is an experienced dumper driver and cannot get work with his dumper ticket as it isn't recognised anymore. He has enquired about getting a cpcs card and the cost would be about £600.....................how we are expected to pay this when he is out of work is beyond me!! I cannot understand the thought behind this government initiative when there are so many experienced people out of work who are simply not in a position to be able to afford to re sit tests that they have already taken (under another title).

He won't be able to get the card if he is out of work, as you need the practical element to pass the NVQ.

There IS funding available, it is through the CITB [ConstructionSkills].

It is available to the company who puts their employee through the NVQ and the test; as long as the company is in scope and registered to CITB.

The thought behind the CPCS scheme is that so many people were being killed in construction, that they decided to sign up to CPCS/CSCS rather than be legislated against - it's not a government initiative, it's an industry-led initiative. Unfortunately, there are more people who have got the necessary 'ticket' who are out of work, which means that companies aren't currently willing to put people through the test and thus claim the grant, because they don't have to [supply and demand].

    The grant is
    £76 for the theory
    and
£550 or £325 or £250 for the award of the qual depending on the category.

If he pays for it himself, this should help him get work and thus it will pay for itself once he has a job....but as I mentioned he wouldn't be able to get the NVQ fully until he is working anyway....bad innit!

    Hi there,
I have 8 years experiance driving a forklift ( Telescopic Handler)on building sites but got redundant in 2008, I had a old licence and now not accepted on site's, I am in work but on very low wage and want to get back driving the forklift and need a CPCS card, with the low wage i am on i can not afford the 500 pound CPCS licence.
So what can i do to get help, I have been to Job centre plus and they say "can help if you was unemployed", I don't mind paying for it if they spread the cost over the year but do they give you that option. I feel like quitting my job so i can back to Job centre and say NOW I AM UNEMPLOYED help me get the CPCS.
Thanks for taking time to read this,
    Take care fellow members.
    Jim.
