NHS Dentist Charges

Can anyone tell me how much an NHS dentist charges for a checkup and a clean and polish please (assuming they have set charges!). I currently use a private dentist (they used to be NHS then went private) and I keep putting off going because its too expensive!

Check up varies England and Wales £12 to £16 ish.
You will only get a scale and polish on the NHS if its clinically necessary ie not if you have staining. A "cosmetic" scale and polish will have to be paid for privately.
If clinically necessary its included in check up price unless a more thorough job is needed in which case it is a band two treatment £39 to£44 ish.

Bear in mind very few nhs practices can afford to employ a hygienist except privately so your scale and polish IF NECESSARY will probably be done by the dentist at your check up.

Scotland and NI check up and scale and polish are chargable seperately around £6 and £11 ish respectively.

I'm from near Spalding - but I live in the hills now!
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
