Gillette Razors

Options
I have used Gillette Mach3 power razors for years and have been very pleased with the quick close shaves I have achieved.

Three months ago I changed to power Fusion razor, and I am very disappointed as it is nowhere near as good as the older model. It does not shave as close, and in any case takes longer to achieve an inferior shave.

As usual with Gillette of course the new blade packages are at least 20% more expensive than the old Mach 3.

Anyone else similar experiences?

My husband uses the Mach 3, so far I've resisted trying the fusion, mostly because of the price. Now I'm glad I haven't bothered, hubby's shave (when he bothers) is always good.

My husband agrees with you completely and I emailed Gillette to tell them what he thought.
They didnt offer an explanation but they did send me a £20 Gillette voucher to use against any Gillette product !

Haha nice, I might have to try that!

In my experience, the shaving is only partly responsible by the razor you use and a significant portion of it depends on the pre-shave treatment. For example, if you have a long hot shower before you shave, then massage your face and facial hair just as you're about to shave and apply some Proraso pre shave cream while you're at it, and for a good 2 mins to soften the hair well and proper. Then when you do apply the blade, the shave will be smoother, and if you take your time, there will be less nicks and cuts and once you've finished and washed up, you can use the same proraso cream as an after shave treatment (which works really weird because it slightly stings and opens up your pores before shaving but soothes and calms after shaving!)

Ladies, if your men haven't tried Proraso before, get it for them as a gift, it is one of those obscure type of products that I never really heard about and once I used it I wondered where it had been all that time.

I switched to Wilkinson Sword years ago and have never looked back. The blades last a lot longer.

I am, however, finding ordinary King of Shaves gel harder and harder to get hold of. The first one, blue gel, no bells, no whistles and certainly no menthol. I haven't found another gel that comes close.

I concur, Semi Chem use to sell this amazingly good basic gel for only £1.99, but in recent months have stopped stocking it. However, after some not so subtle hint dropping, and a recent birthday, I now have 6 x King of Shaves 'black' gel tubes ( they sell for around £6!)- should last a wee while! :)
