How about having a spa day when you're debt free? How much sooner will that be - work out the difference to your debt free date.
When I started my spending diary, ali007 pointed out to me (when I fell off the wagon in my first week!!!) how much sooner my debt free date would have been had I not gone out three times that week. That knocked me into shape, I tell you!LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

Just make sure you have online banking as an option and log in several times a day to stare longingly at it.
Yep - I agree. I keep doing this with my ING accounts - saving and watching the interest stack up, rather than spending has become my new addiction.
Lynz, I've set myself up a 'Me' pot in my ING account where I put little bits of spare cash. The whole pot is solely to do whatever the hell I want with it - once I've got a nice sum, I'll buy something nice to wear or have some pampering to make all the scrimping seem worthwhile. I'm like a dog - I need to be rewarded for being good. :rotfl:
However, if you've got a lot of money from quitting smoking, maybe put half into a 'Me' pot and the other half into a 'debt' pot.0 -
Hi lynzpower congrats on giving up. my suggestion would be a savings account that pays monthly interest weve got one not the highest payer 4.8% ish and it goes in on the 15th so I transfer the money in just before then to get the interest anyway save it up for a couple of weeks in the jar so you can see how much your saving and then transfer to your account and get the interest too! Then you could always use the savings and interest to pay towards the debt at the end of each month. Also Boots are doing an offer on their gift cards if youve got £20 to spare if you put £20 on their pamper gift card you get a free pamper treatment so interest from your savings and a spa treatment all for giving up the fags!
Good luck and keep up the good work.Official DFW nerd 206 Proud to be dealing with my debt

@Lynz
Save up the money and decide what to do with it every month. It could be thought of as an unexpected income stream with health benefits. It may make your property easier to market. It's only £1800 a year.

Well done Lynz, keep it up, this will make such a huge change on your finances over the long term (not to mention your health!). I agree that you deserve to keep some of the savings back to treat and reward yourself- after all if you hadn't quit you wouldn't be seeing any of this money anyway. Maybe 50-50, or whatever split your happiest with.
